The euphonium is made of brass with a metal cup-shaped mouthpiece. It is a strong bass instrument but has also outstanding melody capacities.

It is more mobile and flexible than tuba and less air pressure is needed. It is not included in the standard symphony orchestra instrumentation.

Euphonium is often used for solo purposes because of its flexible sound. It is capable of strong staccatos and fluid legato melodies.
